When it comes to enjoying the rich flavours of Irish culture in the heart of Singapore, my journey through the city’s Irish pubs has been nothing short of an adventure. From the traditional ambiance of The Drunken Poet to the hidden gems like The Hidden Pipe, each pub offers a unique experience. This is my firsthand account of savouring the best of Irish hospitality, discovering delightful dishes, and soaking in the inviting atmospheres that these pubs have to offer. Join me as we embark on a tour of some of the finest Irish pubs in Singapore.
1. The Drunken Poet
I’m a big fan of Irish culture and food, so The Drunken Poet in Singapore was a must-visit for me. It’s right in the heart of Orchard Road and offers a classic Irish pub experience that’s truly impressive. What I love about The Drunken Poet is their dedication to making customers happy. They stay open until 1 am, so whether you’re a night owl or just looking for a late-night meal, they’ve got you covered.
The atmosphere at The Drunken Poet is fantastic. Whether I’m enjoying a cold beer with friends or watching a thrilling football match, it’s a great place to unwind in the lively Orchard area. It’s hard to get enough of this place!
The Drunken Poet boasts an extensive menu that perfectly complements their selection of ice-cold draught beers. The draught beer is a must-order as it is creamy, thick, and definitely of good quality! One of my all-time favorites here is their celebrated fish and chips. This dish is the talk of the town, and for a good reason. The fish is generous in size and boasts just the right amount of batter to achieve that perfect level of crispiness. The tender, fresh fish meat is a true delight, making it arguably the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. You can actually see the clean, distinct layers in the fish, and the portion of fries is nothing short of generous.
For a meat lover like me, The Drunken Poet’s ultimate meat platter was a revelation. It’s an absolute must-order, and it’s perfect for sharing with your pals. The platter features a mouthwatering array of meats, and trust me, it’s enough to satisfy even the most voracious appetites. On that platter, you’ll find roast beef, melt-in-your-mouth BBQ Guinness pork ribs, grilled sausages, and Cajun roast chicken, all accompanied by garlic-buttered seasonal veggies. The beef is astonishingly tender, reminiscent of a thin steak in both texture and taste. The BBQ Guinness pork ribs fall right off the bone, and the Chef’s Guinness BBQ sauce takes them to a whole new level. Perfectly balanced fat content keeps them juicy, and the chicken, oh, the chicken, it’s incredibly tender and a must-try for chicken aficionados. This platter is truly a meat lover’s dream.
If you’re seeking a taste of authentic Irish cuisine, their traditional Shepherd’s Pie is not to be missed. The meat is tender and succulent, making every bite a mouthwatering delight. And, of course, I couldn’t resist ordering the “I Want it Loaded Chilli Beef Fries.” The generous toppings of flavourful chili beef on crispy fries made for an explosion of flavours with every bite.
