The Drunken Poet – One of Singapore’s Best Fish and Chips at a Modern Irish Pub

Are you searching for a true taste of Irish cuisine? Look no further; I’ve got just the place for you – The Drunken Poet! This authentic Irish pub has it all, from Man’s Night to late-night suppers Β with a side of alcohol (you can drink till 6am).

During the football season, this Irish pub is one of the most frequently visited place to have a good Guinness Beer and watch your favourite soccer team score that goal. and Let’s dive into what makes this place so special!

The Irish Pub Experience

The Drunken Poet is not just your run-of-the-mill restaurant. It’s an Irish pub where the fun never stops. Their operating hours can go as late as the crowd desires, sometimes extending till 6 am! This means you can catch those late-night football matches or Premier League games while sipping on some awesome draft beers. They are very famous for their Guinness beer as many customers have said that the Guinness is more authentic and creamy than what majority of other pubs serves. If you do not believe me, head over to The Drunken Poet and try. You will not be disappointed.Β

Ol’ Skool Fish N’ Chips – Must Order

Fresh seasonal fish, coated in a crispy, beer-infused batter, is served with a side of fries and homemade tartar sauce. The fish is substantial and has just the right amount of batter to achieve incredible crispiness. The fish meat is tender, fresh, and downright scrumptious, making it one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted. I can see the clean, distinct layers in the fish, and the portion of fries is generous. To elevate the experience further, I added a dash of malt vinegar, which worked like magic, transporting my taste buds to a whole new level with its pleasantly tangy and fragrant notes. It’s accompanied by a generous serving of crispy fries and a fresh salad, making it a filling and satisfying meal for one.Β

Upon conversing with the shop manager, the recipe and cooking method for the Fish N Chips was also learnt from Irish Chefs! No wonder many expats from Ireland visit their place often. Additionally, the shop manager also mentioned that their Fish N chips allow them to feel back at home. Highly recommended dish to try!

Ultimate Roast Meat Platter – Must Order

The platter boasts Roast Beef, BBQ Guinness Pork Ribs, Grilled Sausages, and Cajun Roast Chicken, served with Garlic-Buttered Seasonal Veggies. The beef is incredibly tender and resembles a thin steak in both texture and taste, making it a real treat.

The BBQ Guinness pork ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, with Chef’s Guinness BBQ sauce elevating them to one of the best pork ribs I’ve ever taste. The perfect amount of fat keeps them juicy. This smokiness is a key element in BBQ ribs and adds depth to the overall taste. It has a rich and malty taste brought by the beer which enhances the complexity of the sauce. The combination of the meat, smokiness, BBQ sauce, and Guinness imparts a savoury and umami quality to the ribs.

The chicken is also exceptionally tender and a must-try for chicken chop enthusiasts. This platter is a must for sharing and meat lovers like myself. The meat quality is outstanding, and the sauces, including red wine and onion sauce, are delicious. Roasted carrots, soft roast potatoes, and broccoli that’s reminiscent of Malaysia Lok-Lok, make the perfect accompaniments.

Traditional Shepherd’s Pie

Both the Fish and Chips and their Traditional Shepherd’s pie are the Irish expats favourites as the tastes are most similar to home. It’s has a wholesome dish with a comforting appeal.

Traditional Shepherd’s Pie is made with minced lamb, homemade creamy mashed potato, parmesan cheese and spices. The minced lamb was slow-cooked with a rich onion gravy, giving the dish its depth of flavour. The mashed potato crust on top is slightly crispy on the outside, but creamy and buttery as your spoon digs into the dish. The way the slight nuttiness and sweetness of the potato mixed with the flavourful lamb was a real wonderful treat. This is undoubtedly an authentic Irish dish!

I Want it Loaded

A generous basket of crispy fries, heaped with Chilli Beef, JalapeΓ±os, Cheese Sauce, and Salsa. The toppings are unbelievably generous, especially the flavourful Chilli beef. The fries are delightfully crispy, and the minced beef is tender and perfectly seasoned. It has a slight kick of spiciness without being overly salty, and all the ingredients harmonise beautifully. Keep an eye out for chickpeas and jalapeΓ±os that add an extra dimension to this delicious dish.

I used to visit a fast food chain often to eat their Chilli Cheese Fries, but I think for now The Drunken Poet has taken over the spot. My friends and I all loved this dish.

Guinness and Kilkenny

Did you know that both Guinness and Kilkenny are Irish beers?

The draft beers here taste better than many I’ve tried elsewhere. Their Guinness beer is known by many to be creamier and thicker than what majority of the pubs serves. Guinness offers an intense and rich flavour while remaining exceptionally smooth. Kilkenny, on the other hand, is a velvety and delightful option, making it a perfect choice for beer enthusiast
