If you would like to try Teochew Style Cuisine, then you must go to Swatow Seafood Restaurant.
Swatow Seafood Restaurant serves up authentic and delightful Teochew-style food. The restaurant is conveniently located in Toa Payoh, within short walking distance from Toa Payoh MRT Station.
The restaurant is also spacious and has a comfortable dining environment to serve large crowds.
Today, we would be trying out the Two Person Set Menu, which consists of: Teochew braised meat combination, braised shark’s fin with crabmeat bisque, Steamed jumbo grouper fillet in nyonya sauce, sauteed scallop with asparagus in X.O sauce, Teochew Kai-Lan Fried Kuay Teow with preserved radish and sweet yam paste with pumpkin & ginko nuts.
Teochew Braised Meat Combination
The Teochew braised meat combination comprises 2 generous portions of steamed chicken and Teochew Braised Sliced Duck with beancurd. Both the chicken and duck meat were delicious with juicy flesh and just the right amount of fragrant fat.
Braised Shark’s Fin with Crabmeat Bisque
The braised shark’s fin with crabmeat bisque is served as an individual serving, on a warmer. This would ensure that the bisque would always be warm when consumed. The braised sharkβs fin is made using premium fins, which had a soft and slightly chewy texture. The best part of the bisque was the thick and savoury broth.Β
Steamed Jumbo Grouper Fillet in Nyonya Sauce
This appetizing dish pairs the savoury and slightly spicy Nyonya sauce with the tender grouper fillet. The spice was on point and didnβt cover up the freshness of the fish.
Sauteed Scallop with Asparagus in X.O sauce
The springy yet tender scallops go perfectly well with the crunchy natural sweetness of fresh asparagus.
Teochew Kai-Lan Fried Kuay Teow with Preserved Radish
This is Swatowβs signature and all-time favourite dish. It has a lovely smoky flavor and the rice noodle is not overly oily. The addition of kalian, preserved radish, and crispy cubes of deep-fried pork lard added another dimension to the dish.
Sweet Yam Paste with Pumpkin & Ginko Nuts
Cap the meal off with the Teochew favourite old-school dessert, Orh Nee or sweet yam paste, which comes with classic gingko nuts and pumpkin. This is also Swatow’s famous and best-selling dessert. The paste was both gooey and savoury, which made it a perfect texture. Taste-wise, it is mildly sweet so even after a heavy meal, having this Teochew sweet yam paste does not feel overwhelming.
They also have a High-Tea Dim Sum Buffet for all dim-sum lovers, available from 3-5pm daily!
