My friends and I went to Gluttons By The Bay to try out this Muslim-owned Halal Italian restaurant – Saporita. Saporita is the first Halal Italian restaurant to bring authentic flavors of Italy to Singaporeโ€™s hawker centre heritage.ย  It is the first ever 40kg Cheesewheel (Grana Padano) in a permanent setting at a hawker centre.ย ย

These are what we ordered:

  • Truffle Cheesewheel Pasta ($15.00)
  • Rucola Salad ($7.00)
  • Arancini ($8.00)
  • Truffle Pizza with Sausage & Mushrooms ($18.00)
  • Inspired Spaghetti Carbonara ($15.00)

I was watching with fascination as they were preparing the Truffle Cheesewheel Pasta by tossing the pasta on the 40kg cheese wheel. It’s not every day that one gets to witness something like this. The pasta is topped with shaved Grana Padano and Truffle Pate.

The Rucola salad comes with fresh rocket leaves and cherry tomatoes, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze topped with shaves of Grana Padano. It has a perfect balance, coming from someone like me who doesn’t really eat salads.

The Truffle Pizza with Sausage & Mushrooms is hand-stretched by the chef before he adds in a creamy sauce, together with cheese, sausages, and mushrooms before being fired in the oven and having black truffle added to it after that.

It was the first time I tried Arancini and it has an interesting taste to it. Another name for it would be an Italian rice ball, which is stuffed with mozzarella and minced chicken, coated with bread crumbs, and deep-fried.

Last but not least, we have the Inspired Spaghetti Carbonara, which uses turkey bacon as a replacement for pork bacon.

All the dishes we tried were really delicious and we loved the pizza the most. The taste of the truffle invading our palate actually increased our appetite by quite a bit. In fact, we loved it so much, we ordered ourselves another Truffle Pizza with Sausage & Mushrooms.

We finished everything in under 30 minutes, which in itself is self-explanatory on how good the food is. I would also like to highlight that not only is their food delicious, but their prices are also pretty competitive. Saporita is a place that you should pay a visit to if you love Italian food.

Free seating, no reservation required.
