Last weekend, we ventured into the Sembawang area for a family meal, only to discover a hidden gem Thai food restaurant named New Thai. The foods are authentic and rightly served by a team from Nong Khai, Thailand.

Previously at Little India, New Thai collaborates with Viokitchen with the restaurant is now located at Nordcom I, only 2 bus stops away from Sembawang MRT. From the entrance, watch your left; you will notice Viokitchen at the corner. The dine-in area is limited to 10 pax max. We love the ambiance; homey, quiet, good for a family gathering

From their wide range of appetizers, salads, soups, and crab dishes, we had:
Papaya Salad ($8)
What is Thai food without papaya salad? This papaya salad is a combination of mango, papaya, cherry tomato, long beans, and nuts. Less crunchy and spicy than expected. The taste mostly comes from fresh lime.
Tom Yam Kung ($20)
My personal must-order dish at Thai restaurants! It has squid, mushroom, and prawn in generous portions. The seafood are so fresh! The soup has a good balance between acidity and spiciness.
Seabass Lemon and Thai Seafood Sauce ($38)
A whole steamed fresh fish with special-made sauce. The tender and soft fish is served with an addictive sauce made from garlic, freshly squeezed lime juice, and chili. Thai food always has this sour and spicy mix and New Thai brought out its best flavours.
Basil Pork Rice with Egg ($9)
Minced pork tossed with garlic, shallots, and chilies in the hot wok. It offers the umami taste and is perfect with a sunny side-up.
Seafood Fried Mama Noodles ($15)
We love the springy noodles cooked to perfection. Contains prawns, squid, long beans, mushrooms, and corn.
We went for the everyday Thai milk tea as our drink. The sweetness is on-the-spot but we would have loved more milk in it.
Other foods in their menu include
Fried Pork
Flower Crab Salad
Mookata
There is just so much more amazing Thai food served in New Thai. It is definitely underrated and probably the best place to satisfy all your cravings!
